California's current solar export tariff (successor to the old Net Energy Metering rules), in effect since April 2023. Not a rebate — an ongoing export rate that shapes how solar and battery pays back.

Not a fixed dollar rebate — a time-varying per-kWh export credit rate set by the CPUC, varying by utility, hour and season.
The California Public Utilities Commission's Net Billing Tariff applies to new solar exports for PG&E, SCE and SDG&E customers, replacing the earlier NEM 2.0 export credit structure (NEM 2.0 customers already connected are grandfathered for 20 years). Export credit rates vary by hour and season, generally paying more for exports during the early-evening peak than the old flat NEM 2.0 rate did for midday exports — this is a major reason home batteries pair so well with new California solar installs.
Eligibility
Applies automatically to new solar (and solar-plus-storage) interconnections with PG&E, SCE or SDG&E.
